Graham Leading Southerland In House Majority PAC Post-Shutdown Poll

Washington, D.C. – Brand new polling conducted for House Majority PAC shows just how high a price Rep. Steve Southerland is paying for shutting down the government, then voting to keep it closed and driving the U.S. towards economic devastation.

In a new House Majority PAC poll, Democrat Gwen Graham is beating Republican Steve Southerland 44 percent to 41 percent. In a sign of more bad news for Southerland, it also shows him underwater on both his favorability (39 percent favorable, 41 percent unfavorable) and job approval (36 percent approval, 42 percent disapproval) ratings.

Of course, not only did Rep. Southerland vote to shut down the federal government, he was also one of a small number of vulnerable Republicans to oppose the bipartisan compromise to reopen the government and avoid default. House Majority PAC just this week began running a new TV ad hitting Southerland over his inexplicable ‘no’ vote.

The results from Public Policy Polling, who conducted the poll for House Majority PAC, are available here. The poll has a margin of error of 3.2 percent.

“After Steve Southerland shut down the government and wasted $24 billion, then voted to keep it closed and force our nation to default, voters in north and northwest Florida are understandably holding him accountable,” said Andy Stone, Communications Director for House Majority PAC. “The numbers don’t lie and Steve Southerland is paying a serious price for his reckless shutdown scheme.”
