MA-06: House Majority PAC Congratulates Seth Moulton

November 5, 2014

Washington, D.C. – House Majority PAC congratulates Representative-Elect Seth Moulton on his election in Massachusetts’s Sixth Congressional District.

“Tonight voters once again rejected the tired, partisan politics of Richard Tisei and elected Iraq War Veteran Seth Moulton,” said Ali Lapp, Executive Director of House Majority PAC. “House Majority PAC was proud to play a part in making sure this rising star in the Democratic Party will be able to go to Washington and enact positive change.”

John Tierney was one of the longest-serving members of the current Massachusetts delegation. However, hampered by family ethical and legal controversy, Tierney barely escaped in 2012, in one of the closest elections of the cycle, winning by just one percentage point over former state senator Richard Tisei. House Majority PAC spent over $450K in 2012 and expected an equally close election in 2014.

When Seth Moulton won the Democratic primary in September, HMP was faced with an unexpected challenge and opportunity. Moulton was also a first-time candidate with relatively low name ID among voters and had spent much of his money in the competitive Democratic primary. With Tisei once again on the ballot, this was going to be an extremely expensive two-month general election, and outside Republican groups invested early, spending over $2 million to defeat Moulton in this competitive district — a district that Charlie Baker most certainly will carry. House Majority PAC knew to win this seat, we needed to answer the outside Republican spending. House Majority PAC coordinated with Vote Vets and the National Education Association to shape messaging and counter the Republican ads. HMP and our partners produced two TV ads total and House Majority PAC went on the air in late October with one ad, on Boston broadcast and cable.

HMP spent the following in this district: $534,490
