Washington, D.C. – House Majority PAC congratulates Representative-Elect Haley Stevens on her victory in Michigan's 11th Congressional District.
“Haley Stevens has been a tireless advocate for boosting Michigan’s economy and creating jobs,” said House Majority PAC Executive Director Charlie Kelly. “Voters sent a clear message in choosing Haley Stevens, a fighter for middle class jobs, and rejecting Lena Epstein, an extreme partisan who would support the toxic agenda of Donald Trump and the Republican Party in lock-step. House Majority PAC is thrilled to have played a critical role in sending Haley Stevens, a true middle class champion to Congress.”
Haley Stevens was a strong Democratic candidate who spent her career helping to expand economic opportunity throughout the Midwest, including as the chief of staff on the Auto Rescue under President Obama where she helped revive the auto industry, saving over 200,000 Michigan jobs.
MI-11 has traditionally been a Republican stronghold, having been represented by a Democrat only twice since 1965, and went for both Donald Trump and Mitt Romney in 2016 and 2012 respectively. However, with the retirement of Republican incumbent Congressman Dave Trott, House Majority PAC knew that this one-time Barack Obama district would be a critical pick-up opportunity. In this open seat in Detroit’s diverse suburbs, Republicans were weighed down by their party’s unpopular President and congressional agenda, making this a top-tier district to target.
HMP invested in a TV ad that highlighted Lena Epstein’s support for the toxic Republican agenda, including increased health care costs, and spotlighted her role as Donald Trump’s Michigan Campaign Co-Chair in 2016. Additionally, HMP partnered with Priorities USA Action to showcase Epstein’s support for the GOP tax scam that exploded the national debt and raised taxes on the middle class.
