Washington, D.C. – House Majority PAC congratulates Representative-Elect Colin Allred on his victory in Texas’ 32nd Congressional District.
“Tonight, Texans rejected career politician Pete Sessions and his partisan politics – opting instead to elect a fresh voice for hardworking families,” said House Majority PAC Executive Director Charlie Kelly. “Colin Allred is fighting to empower local communities – expanding economic opportunity and increasing access to affordable, quality health care. House Majority PAC is proud to have helped Colin Allred on his path to victory.”
Pete Sessions has been in Congress over 20 years, but the 2016 presidential results in TX-32 made it a prime pick-up opportunity in 2018. There was no question that this was going to be a challenging pick-up. However, with suburban districts like TX-32 increasingly favoring Democrats across the country, an out-of-touch incumbent in Sessions, and top-notch challenger in Allred, the necessary ingredients were present to flip this long-time Republican stronghold, and HMP reserved fall airtime in the district back in March.
HMP launched a comprehensive campaign that included a multi-piece direct mail program, a digital program in partnership with Priorities USA Action, and a $2.3 million TV buy. Both the TV and digital ads highlighted Sessions’ toxic voting record of siding with special interests over hardworking Texas families. Sessions voted for his party’s health care bill as well as the tax plan, which will increase costs, add nearly $2 trillion to the national debt, and raise taxes on the middle class. To pay for the plan, Sessions and his party – who wants to privatize Social Security – signaled they’d pay for it by cutting Social Security and Medicare.
