House Majority PAC Statement on Ron Barber’s Victory in AZ-08 Special Election

Dem Super PAC Spent Nearly $500,000 in Race Airing Two TV Ads Called “Devastatingly Effective”

Washington, D.C. – House Majority PAC Executive Director Alixandria Lapp released the following statement after Ron Barber’s victory was confirmed in the special election to fill the remainder of former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ term in Congress:

“Southern Arizona voters had the opportunity to assess Jesse Kelly’s extreme record of support for eliminating Medicare, Social Security, the minimum wage and all corporate taxes and they rejected it outright.

“Yet all across the country, House Republicans have backed plans to end Medicare as we know it and gut the social safety net – and the results in Arizona should put them on notice. Just as House Majority PAC did in southern Arizona, we will hold these Republicans accountable for their extreme efforts to end the Medicare guarantee and deny future retirees the promise of secure, affordable health coverage while giving more tax breaks to the wealthiest among us.”

House Majority PAC spent nearly $500,000 airing two television ads in the race that have been called “devastatingly effective.” National Journal termed the second of the two ads the “most memorable” of the race.

Washington, D.C. – House Majority PAC today announced a new six-figure advertising campaign in the AZ-08 special election.

The TV ad, entitled “Half You,” begins running today, June 4, and will run through Election Day. The ad also features Kelly’s remarks about former-Rep. Gabrielle Giffords from an August 2010 campaign event. The five-minute video of Kelly’s comments from that August 28, 2010 rally is available here.

“Try as he might to pull a fast one on southern Arizonans, Jesse Kelly just cannot escape the extreme statements he’s made and the radical positions he’s taken,” said Alixandria Lapp, Executive Director of House Majority PAC. “In House Majority PAC’s new ad, Jesse Kelly makes his own case to Arizona voters about just how out of touch and dangerous his ideas are.”

HOUSE MAJORITY PAC RELEASES NEW AD SHOWING JUST HOW EXTREME JESSE KELLY IS – USING HIS OWN WORDS

Ad Buy in Arizona Eighth District Special Election to Begin on Friday, Last Three Weeks

House Majority PAC today released an advertisement that demonstrates just how extreme Jesse Kelly is – using his own words. Kelly is the Republican nominee in the special election in Arizona’s Eighth District to complete the term of former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

The TV ad, entitled “Screens,” will begin running on Friday. It features clips of Kelly championing extreme positions, like his support of tax cuts for the top one percent, a zero percent corporate tax rate, abolition of the minimum wage and his characterization of Medicare and Social Security as Ponzi schemes that he’d like to see eliminated.

“Jesse Kelly may now be working overtime to deny his full-throated support for extreme policies, but as Warner Wolf famously said, ‘let’s go to the videotape,’” said Alixandria Lapp, Executive Director of House Majority PAC. “Whether it’s backing massive tax cuts for the wealthiest among us, abolishing the minimum wage or eliminating Medicare and Social Security and ripping the safety net out from underneath seniors, Jesse Kelly is out of step with southern Arizonans.”
