Advice For John Kline As He Prepares To Deliver Weekly Republican Radio Address
June 21, 2013
Washington, D.C. – As John Kline prepares to deliver tomorrow’s weekly Republican radio address, he would do well to listen to a mom from Eagan, Minn., who called “just plain stupid” Kline’s plan to prevent a doubling of student loan interest rates by letting them go even higher.
After all, rates on Stafford loans are set to double from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent on July 1. But Kline’s plan – his first major initiative this Congress as chairman of the Education and Workforce Committee – would allow them to climb to 8.5 percent.
“With college costs soaring and Minnesota families feeling the pinch, John Kline’s plan to prevent student loan rates from doubling is to let them go even higher,” said Andy Stone, Communications Director for House Majority PAC. “If that leaves you scratching your head, wondering how Kline could plant himself so firmly on the opposite side of Gopher State students and families, you’re hardly the only one.”
Kline is a top target of the House Majority PAC and is facing an ongoing $50,000 advertising campaign in Minnesota’s Second District to raise awareness of Kline’s student loan plan.
