July 25, 2012

Washington, D.C. – A new poll conducted for House Majority PAC and SEIU found that Democrat Dan Maffei is leading Republican Ann Marie Buerkle by four percentage points, 44 to 40, in the NY-24 general election matchup. Maffei moved ahead by nine points, 49 to 40 percent, after respondents were read balanced descriptions of both candidates.

The poll also revealed that Maffei has a net positive favorable rating compared to Buerkle’s net negative rating.

An analysis memo from the polling firm, Normington, Petts and Associates, is available .

“Ann Marie Buerkle is out of touch with central New York,” said Alixandria Lapp, Executive Director of House Majority PAC. “Whether it’s Buerkle’s support for protecting tax breaks for companies that ship American jobs overseas or giving even more tax cuts to millionaires while opposing a $1,000 tax cut for American workers, it’s clear that New Yorkers are rejecting her extremist, Tea Party agenda.”

The poll of 400 likely voters in NY-24 was conducted July 16-18. It has a margin of error of 4.9 percent.
