Dem super PAC launches Social Security ad in Florida special election

A top Democratic super PAC is going up with a new ad in an increasingly important special election in Florida.
The ad, from House Majority PAC, hits Republican congressional candidate David Jolly for lobbying for a group that has pushed to privatize Social Security. The attack has been used on Jolly previously and is popular among Democratic campaign groups who have used it effectively against Republicans for years.
The attack could pack even more of a punch in Florida’s 13th district, which is one of the oldest districts in the country.
Jolly lobbied for the Free Enterprise Nation, a group whose founder has pushed for Social Security privatization. Jolly has said he disagrees with that approach and everyone currently on Social Security should be guaranteed their benefits.
House Majority PAC is in the midst of a $650,000, two-week ad buy. The special election, in which Jolly faces former gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink (D), is March 11.
Conservative groups have rallied around Jolly in a huge way, helping him overcome a sizeable fundraising deficit.
The race, in one of the nation’s marquee swing districts, is expected to be very competitive over the final four weeks. It is expected to be viewed as something of a bellwether for the 2014 election.
