November 9, 2016
Washington, D.C. – House Majority PAC congratulated Representative-Elect Stephanie Murphy on her victory in Florida’s Seventh Congressional District.
“By electing Stephanie Murphy to Congress, Central Florida has chosen a proven leader with a strong record of public service and a new approach to get the job done,” said House Majority PAC Executive Director Alixandria Lapp. “House Majority PAC is proud to have played a part in making sure Stephanie Murphy can do great work in Washington.”
With a strong, dynamic Democratic candidate, a district that had become more favorable to Democrats, and a Republican incumbent who had never run a tough general election, House Majority PAC knew this was a top pick-up opportunity, but one that required help to boost Murphy’s name recognition and spotlight Mica’s out-of-touch record. HMP was the first Democratic group on air in the race. The group ran a TV ad for two weeks in September, titled “One Job,” that held Congressman John Mica responsible for his record of repeatedly voting to raise his pay while Congress failed to do its job and pass a budget. The ad also highlighted Murphy’s call for cutting Congressional salaries and her advocacy for No Budget, No Pay legislation.
HMP also launched and worked with allied groups to implement a robust direct mail program in the district spotlighting Mica’s out-of-touch record and radical positions on issues including women’s health and gun safety reforms.
