FL-27: House Majority PAC Congratulates Donna Shalala

November 7, 2018

Washington, D.C. – House Majority PAC congratulates Representative-Elect Donna Shalala on her victory in Florida’s 27th Congressional District.

“Donna Shalala has a distinguished record fighting for South Florida and for all Americans,” said House Majority PAC Executive Director Charlie Kelly. “Voters rejected Maria Elvira Salazar’s partisan politics and have chosen a Representative in Donna Shalala who will focus on critical issues like improving education, lowering health care costs, and growing the local economy. HMP is proud to have played a part in helping Donna Shalala get to Congress where she’ll continue her work to improve the lives of Miami families.”

FL-27 had been a historically Republican House district. When the popular Republican incumbent Ileana Ros-Lehtinen announced her retirement, Democrats saw this seat as a top pick-up opportunity. Given the demographics and increasingly favorable political environment for Democrats in this district, House Majority PAC invested in a bilingual, fourteen-piece direct mail program in coordination with EMILY’s List’s independent expenditure operation, WOMEN VOTE! to support Donna Shalala and inform voters about Maria Elvira Salazar’s support for the GOP agenda. HMP also ran a TV ad, in Spanish and English, in the final days of the election tying Maria Elvira Salazar to Donald Trump and failed Republican policies to ensure a strong finish for Democats heading into Election Day in the district.

HMP also partnered with Priorities USA Action on a digital advertising program in English and Spanish that highlighted Maria Elvira Salazar’s support for the GOP tax plan.
