Garcia Up Nine; Corruption Scandals Increase Serious Doubts About Rivera

Washington, D.C. – House Majority PAC and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) today released a poll that shows Democrat Joe Garcia leading scandal-plagued Republican David Rivera by nine points, 50 to 41 percent.

Garcia not only enjoys a sizable lead over Rivera, but Rivera is well underwater on his favorability ranking. Just 30 percent of likely voters rank Rivera’s performance in office as favorable, while 46 percent view it unfavorably.

President Obama leads Mitt Romney in this district 54 to 41 percent.

A full memo from the polling firm, the Benenson Strategy Group, is available .

“Under investigation by multiple law enforcement agencies, David Rivera is clearly one of the most ethically-challenged, scandal-plagued members of Congress,” said Alixandria Lapp, Executive Director of House Majority PAC. “But what’s worse is the anti-middle class voting record he’s racked up in just a short time in Washington: gutting Medicare, cutting education and infrastructure funding and giving tax breaks to the wealthiest among us.”

“Joe Garcia is going to roll his sleeves up for Florida’s working families,” said Monica Russo, president of SEIU Florida State Council. “Joe understands the difficulties facing many Floridians and Americans alike and will bring solutions including having access to affordable healthcare, the need for good jobs as well as ensuring that everyone pay their fair share and play by the same rules. Unlike his opponent, Joe will stand up and fight to ensure that Medicare won’t be cut in order to give millionaires another tax break.”
