Hoping No One Would Notice, Mike Coffman Votes to Support Deportation of Dreamers

June 6, 2013

Washington, D.C. – In a craven political move, last February, Rep. Mike Coffman (R-CO) abandoned his long-held, hardline, anti-immigration stance and told a standing-room-only audience of 800 Coloradans that he is “in favor of legal status for illegal immigrants and a path to citizenship for their children.”

Then today, Coffman joined with the rabidly anti-immigrant Rep. Steve King (R-IA) to support the deportation of so-called Dreamers, the hundreds of thousands of immigrants, brought to the United States as children, now living here illegally.

“Mike Coffman fully embraced the meaning of the word hypocrite today by voting to support the deportation of so-called Dreamers after telling a Colorado audience just a few months ago that he supports a pathway to citizenship for those very same Dreamers,” said Andy Stone, Communications Director for House Majority PAC. “Clearly, Coffman is trying to have his cake and eat it too – while hoping no one notices.”

Coffman is one of House Majority PAC’s top Republicans targets.
