January 11, 2023

Washington, D.C. – House Majority PAC today announced that Alixandria Lapp, founder of HMP, will be stepping down from her role as President. Mike Smith, a political strategist with over a decade of experience developing and implementing organizational and campaign strategies for Democratic groups, will become House Majority PAC’s new President.

Mike Smith will become President of House Majority PAC. Smith is a veteran political strategist with over a decade of experience developing and implementing organizational and campaign strategies for Democratic groups – most recently serving as a Senior Advisor to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Additionally, Smith served as a Senior Advisor to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, where he helped support the organizations’ fundraising, messaging, and political strategy. Additionally, Smith previously served as the Deputy Executive Director of the DCCC, Political and Finance Director to Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Deputy National Finance Director to Secretary Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign. A New Jersey native, Smith graduated from Rutgers University, and currently lives in Washington, DC, with his wife, Sabrina, and their two dogs, Mollie and Billy.

“By bringing on Mike Smith as President, House Majority PAC will ensure a smooth transition so that Democratic candidates can maximize every opportunity and we can ensure Democrats take back the House in 2024,” said Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries. “House Democrats are fortunate to have him in this fight.”

“Mike Smith has been an invaluable asset to House Democrats: providing strategic insights and smart decision-making to our fight in the political arena,” Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi said. “Mike follows a strong tradition started by founding president Ali Lapp, to whom I extend my personal deep gratitude for her extraordinary leadership in achieving so many Democratic successes. With Mike Smith leading House Majority PAC and Leader Hakeem Jeffries at the helm of our Caucus, Democrats are ready to retake the House in 2024!”

“I’m incredibly proud of the work House Majority PAC has done since 2011,” said Alixandria Lapp, founder and former President of House Majority PAC. “We have provided an important and necessary counterbalance to Republican outside spending and helped elect a huge number of fantastic Democrats to Congress. Those Democrats have made their districts and America a better place. House Majority PAC will be in fantastic hands moving forward under new President Mike Smith and the senior leadership team led by Executive Director Abby Curran Horrell. I am so excited about the amazing work they’ll do over the next two years to elect more House Democrats and win the majority.”
