House Majority PAC Expands Accountability Campaign into California

July 17, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, House Majority PAC announced that it will expand its Congressional Accountability Campaign to target seven California Republican-held Congressional districts – CA-10 (Jeff Denham), CA-21 (David Valadao), CA-25 (Steve Knight), CA-39 (Ed Royce), CA-45 (Mimi Walters), CA-48 (Dana Rohrabacher), and CA-49 (Darrell Issa). All seven of the targeted California seats were won by Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Additionally, HMP will be setting up a dedicated California account for the 2018 cycle to ensure California money stays in California.

Last month, House Majority PAC and allied groups first launched the accountability campaign targeting Republicans who voted for the disastrous GOP healthcare bill in an initial dozen House districts across the country (AZ-02, FL-18, FL-25, ME-02, MI-01, MI-06, MI-07, MI-08, MI-11, WI-01, WI-07, and WI-08). Working with allies and progressive local groups – HMP continues to help mobilize communities in these districts through on-the-ground grassroots engagement and investments in multi-platform media campaigns to hold Republicans accountable for betraying the needs of their constituents.

In California, HMP plans to achieve the same goals with direct investments in grassroots organizing as well as media to help local activists engage and hold their House Members accountable through rallies, events, and other actions. As with the initial 12 targeted districts, HMP’s primary focus will be on economic issues that resonate with voters with an emphasis on health care.

“California will be at the center of our effort to gain seats and win the majority for Democrats in 2018” said House Majority PAC Executive Director Charlie Kelly. “California’s Congressional Republicans were already increasingly out-of-step with their districts for years, but they dove off the deep end when they toed the line for Trump and voted for the disastrous GOP healthcare bill. House Majority PAC is committed to holding these Republicans accountable for their bill that strips health coverage for 23 million Americans, imposes an ‘Age Tax’ on people over 50, cuts Medicaid, and guts protections for pre-existing conditions. We’ll be working hard to flip these seats for Democrats in 2018.”

Residents of the seven targeted California districts will now also be able to sign up for text message action alerts to stay up-to-date on local grassroots actions by visiting HMP’s webpage.
