In its first television commercial of the cycle, the House Majority PAC targeted New Jersey Rep. Scott Garrett over controversial comments about gay people.
The 30-second spot – ran against the Republican running for re-election in a tough district by the group which works to help Democrats win those races – highlights a Politico report that claimed Garrett said he would not support the National Republican Congressional Committee over its support of gay candidates.
“Businesses are horrified by his bigotry against gays,” the ad said, quoting various New Jersey newspapers which criticized the remarks. “Scott Garrett: He’s bad for business and wrong for New Jersey.”
Garrett’s campaign fundraising has slowed since he made the comments last summer, even to the point of being out-raised last quarter by his Democratic opponent, former Bill Clinton speechwriter Josh Gottheimer.
The group said the ad, below, will begin airing in New Jersey’s 5th District Tuesday.
