IA-03: House Majority PAC Congratulates Cindy Axne
November 7, 2018
Washington, D.C. – House Majority PAC congratulates Representative-Elect Cindy Axne on her victory in Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District.
“As a small business owner and community activist, Cindy Axne knows what’s at stake for Iowans,” said House Majority PAC Executive Director Charlie Kelly. “Voters sent a clear message, and they’re excited to have Axne going to Washington to make real and lasting progress on critical issues, like affordable health care. We’re excited to have played a key role in shining a light on David Young’s toxic agenda and helping to elect Iowa’s next champion Cindy Axne.”
In recent cycles, IA-03 had proven to be a challenging seat for Democrats. The district went for Barack Obama in both 2008 and 2012 and swung to Donald Trump in 2016. Despite this, the focus from Democrats on pocketbook issues and David Young’s disregard for the economic hardships facing Iowans made this a top pick-up opportunity.
HMP launched a TV ad, in the Des Moines media market, slamming David Young for serving his special interest donors at the expense of hardworking families – voting to raise taxes on the middle class. Then HMP launched a TV ad, in both the Des Moines media market and the Omaha media market, targeting Young for failing to protect Iowans’ health care, including gutting protections and imposing a punishing “Age Tax.” In the final week, HMP launched a closing TV ad that called David Young out for taking nearly $2 million from wealthy and corporate donors and voting for the toxic tax plan, which gives massive tax breaks to for the ultra-rich. To pay for it, Washington Republicans want to make deep cuts in Social Security and Medicare.
HMP launched a digital ad in May showcasing David Young’s toxic health care record. Then in the fall, HMP launched a direct mail program and partnered with Priorities USA Action on a digital program, which focused on Young’s support for the GOP tax plan.
