Joint Statement from House Majority PAC and Senate Majority PAC on Supreme Court Decision to Overturn Roe v. Wade

June 24, 2022

Washington, D.C. – In response to today’s decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade, House Majority PAC Executive Director Abby Curran Horrell and Senate Majority PAC President JB Poersch issued the following joint statement:

“Today’s Supreme Court decision flies in the face of decades of precedent and is a direct assault on the constitutional right to a safe, legal abortion that’s been guaranteed for nearly a half-century. Let’s be clear: this is an attack on American freedoms, plain and simple.

“The upcoming midterm elections will determine whether Republicans can place cruel new restrictions on reproductive rights, ban abortion nationwide with no exceptions, criminalize abortion providers, and punish women. The stakes of defending our Democratic Senate and House majorities have never been higher.

“We intend to make sure voters fully understand the choice ahead of our country: securing a Democratic House Majority, and protecting and expanding our Democratic Senate Majority with the power to confirm or reject Supreme Court justices and protect reproductive rights — or a Republican-led Senate working in tandem with a Republican-led House to pursue a nationwide abortion ban and block the administration from filling Supreme Court vacancies.

“Protecting reproductive freedom and abortion rights is a popular and powerful issue that will motivate voters of every political persuasion across the country. Come November, we must elect Democrats to the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives who will fight like hell to ensure that our constitutional rights are enshrined into law and serve as the last line of defense against Republicans’ extremist attacks on our fundamental freedoms.”
