ME-02: House Majority PAC Congratulates Jared Golden

Washington, D.C. – House Majority PAC congratulates Representative-Elect Jared Golden on his victory in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District.
“Jared Golden secured a victory for Maine and those who want independent, commonsense leadership instead of a Congressman whose priority has been helping multi-millionaires like himself and special interests at the expense of Maine families,” said Charlie Kelly, Executive Director of House Majority PAC. “Jared Golden has always put his country first, and House Majority PAC was proud to play a role in making sure he can go to Washington and fight for middle-class Maine families.”
While Democrats had held Maine’s 2nd Congressional District for two decades until 2015, like a number of largely working-class districts, ME-02 had proven challenging over the past two election cycles. However, HMP saw a renewed opportunity to flip this seat with a Democratic challenger in Jared Golden who had a record of distinguished military service and bipartisan accomplishments as a member of Maine’s State Legislature, as well as increasing rejection by voters of Bruce Poliquin and the House GOP’s economic agenda – particularly the GOP health care bill.
House Majority PAC reserved fall airtime in March for all three media markets in the district – Portland, Bangor, and Presque Isle. The group worked with its C4 ally, Patriot Majority USA, who used the reserved airtime to air multiple TV ads targeting Poliquin for his support of the GOP health care bill – with a particular focus on the bill’s “Age Tax” that AARP said could force older Americans to pay premiums up to five times higher than younger consumers, as well as the bill’s gutting of protections for pre-existing conditions. The two groups similarly worked together to produce a radio ad slamming Poliquin. HMP also partnered with VoteVets Action Fund to run an ad comparing Golden’s record of serving the country as a Marine with Poliquin’s record of serving special interests as a politician.
Additionally, HMP partnered with Priorities USA Action to run digital advertising targeting Poliquin for taking campaign contributions from the insurance industry and voting to increase health care premiums.
