MN-03: House Majority PAC Congratulates Dean Phillips

November 7, 2018

Washington, D.C. – House Majority PAC congratulates Representative-Elect Dean Phillips on his victory in Minnesota’s 3rd Congressional District.

“Congratulations to Dean Phillips for an impressive victory,” said House Majority PAC Executive Director Charlie Kelly. “House Majority PAC is thrilled to have played a role in defeating a five-term incumbent, helping ensure Minnesota families will have a Representative who puts principles before party politics and who will bring people together to get things done for Minnesota.”

With a number of races in Minnesota, HMP knew the Minneapolis media market was going to be expensive and crowded, and Republican incumbent Erik Paulsen would be a top-tier target. Political newcomer Dean Phillips offered a stark contrast to career politician Paulsen, who has been in public office for more than two decades. Phillips was able to offer a positive, commonsense alternative to Paulsen’s party-line votes for the toxic GOP agenda that hurt hardworking families while giving tax breaks to the ultra-rich and adding nearly $2 trillion to the national debt. While this college-educated, suburban district was clearly trending Democrats’ way, HMP wasn’t going to take chances in this historically Republican district. On the first day of the General Election, HMP went up with three billboards on major highways to highlight Dean Phillips’ commitment to fighting for real tax relief. In the fall, HMP released a TV ad featuring MN-03 constituents who shined a light on Paulsen’s record of siding with special interests and raising health care costs. Each constituent featured in the ad either had a pre-existing condition themselves, or cared for someone who does.

Additionally, HMP ran an extensive digital campaign, including a summer digital program that highlighted Erik Paulsen’s support for the GOP tax plan, as well as a fall digital program in partnership with Priorities USA Action that continued to hammer Paulsen on his vote to raise taxes on hardworking Minnesotans.
