Among Independents Murphy Leads West By 18
Washington, D.C. – House Majority PAC released a new poll today that shows Democrat Patrick Murphy leading Allen West by a margin of nine points, 52-43 percent. Murphy leads west by 18 points, 58-40 percent, among independents.
Even with the poll’s Republican-skewed sample, Murphy not only leads West but also has much higher favorability ratings. West is underwater with 47 percent of respondents registering negative feelings about him with only 40 percent positive, whereas Murphy is seen positively by 33 percent of respondents and negatively by just 29 percent.
An analysis memo from the polling firm, Garin-Hart-Yang Research, is available .
“It’s clear that with his extreme, offensive rhetoric and record, Allen West is turning off voters all across the spectrum,” said Alixandria Lapp, Executive Director of House Majority PAC. “No wonder West is stooping to desperation moves.”
The poll was conducted September 26 and 27 of 401 likely voters in Florida’s Eighteenth Congressional District. It has a margin of error of 4.9 percent.
House Majority PAC is currently airing its second television ad against Allen West, part of a $1.5 million television buy in the district.
