New CA-07 Poll Demonstrates Dan Lungren’s Vulnerability

Survey Shows Ami Bera Well Positioned To Win Rematch In Competitive District

Washington, D.C. – A new poll conducted for House Majority PAC, SEIU, AFSCME and Friends of Democracy found Rep. Dan Lungren in a vulnerable position as he faces a rematch against his 2010 opponent, Ami Bera.

Lungren and Bera were tied at 47 percent apiece in the initial head to head. After survey respondents were read balanced, positive paragraphs about each candidate, Bera moved ahead of Lungren, 51-46 percent.

The survey also found that President Obama is beating Mitt Romney in this district 52-44 percent, indicating that Bera has additional room to grow.

“Dan Lungren has spent his entire career in Congress looking out for himself, not the interests of Californians,” said Alixandria Lapp, Executive Director of House Majority PAC. “After all, Lungren has voted multiple times to essentially end Medicare, he supports privatizing Social Security and has worked to cut taxes for millionaires while protecting billions in taxpayer-funded subsidies for big oil companies. It’s no wonder Lungren once told a constituent of his, ‘I didn’t run for office to do anything for you.’”

“Dan Lungren’s track record of courting Wall Street interests and voting against holding banks accountable is catching up with him,” said Ilyse Hogue, Co-Director of Friends of Democracy. “With political corruption at the top of voters concerns this cycle, it’s not surprising that Lungren has lost the trust of his constituents.”

The poll of 401 likely voters in CA-07 was conducted August 21-23. It has a margin of error of 5 percent.
