January 8, 2026
Washington, D.C. – A new House Majority PAC poll of NY-01 finds GOP Rep. Nick LaLota is highly vulnerable heading into November, with Democratic candidate Chris Gallant already within striking distance in the race.
HMP’s poll found:
- Trump could drag Nick LaLota down in NY-01: Donald Trump’s job approval is sinking in NY-01—a district he carried by more than ten points in 2024. 50% of NY-01 voters now disapprove of Trump’s overall job performance, and 49% disapprove of his handling of the economy.
- Nick LaLota’s approval rating is underwater: When NY-01 constituents were asked if they approved or disapproved of Nick LaLota’s job performance, 35% said they disapproved, while just 32% said they approved. 33% said they were not sure.
- Nick LaLota’s favorability rating also underwater: When NY-01 constituents were asked if they have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of Nick LaLota, 35% said unfavorable, while just 32% said favorable. 33% said they were not sure.
- Democratic candidate Chris Gallant is already within striking distance: In a head-to-head matchup, 38% of NY-01 constituents said they would vote for Chris Gallant and 41% said they would vote for Nick LaLota. 20% said they were not sure.
- NY-01 constituents express serious concerns about Nick LaLota’s record on the economy—presenting multiple potent lines of attack against the incumbent. After learning that LaLota supports new tariffs that are raising prices on everyday goods and voted for the Republican budget bill that made deep cuts to Medicaid and SNAP benefits while giving billionaires tax breaks, 44% said this gave them very serious concerns and 7% said it gave them somewhat serious concerns about LaLota.
