New HMP Polling Shows Rebecca Cooke Leading Derrick Van Orden in WI-03

Washington, D.C. – A new House Majority PAC survey of WI-03 finds Democratic candidate Rebecca Cooke leading GOP Rep. Derrick Van Orden in a head-to-head matchup.
HMP’s poll found:
- Rebecca Cooke leads Derrick Van Orden in a head-to-head matchup: When WI-03 constituents were asked to choose between Democrat Rebecca Cooke and Republican Derrick Van Orden, 44% said they would vote for Cooke and 42% said they would vote for Van Orden. 13% were not sure.
- Derrick Van Orden’s approval rating is underwater: When WI-03 constituents were asked if they approved or disapproved of Derrick Van Orden’s job performance, 46% said they disapproved, while just 41% said they approved. 14% said they were not sure.
- Derrick Van Orden’s favorability rating also underwater: When WI-03 constituents were asked if they have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of Derrick Van Orden, 48% said unfavorable, while just 38% said favorable. 14% said they were not sure.
- On government shutdown: A 45% plurality of WI-03 constituents said Van Orden isn’t doing his job to reopen the government and end the shutdown, compared to just 36% who said he is. 18% said they were not sure.
- WI-03 constituents express serious concerns about Derrick Van Orden’s record—presenting multiple potent lines of attack against the incumbent. HMP’s polling suggests Van Orden could be highly vulnerable if voters are informed of his stances on the following issues:
- Crime: After learning that Van Orden supported pardoning a violent criminal who was later arrested for child sex crimes, 47% said this gave them very serious concerns and 13% said somewhat serious concerns about Van Orden.
- Economy: After learning that Van Orden supports new tariffs that are raising costs and voted for the Republican budget that cuts Medicaid and SNAP while giving billionaires tax breaks, 46% said this gave them very serious concerns and 7% said it gave them somewhat serious concerns about Van Orden.
- Crime: After learning that Van Orden supported pardoning a violent criminal who was later arrested for child sex crimes, 47% said this gave them very serious concerns and 13% said somewhat serious concerns about Van Orden.
