Post-Shutdown Polling In FL-02 & MN-02 Show Republicans Feeling The GOP Shutdown Heat
Washington, D.C. – Brand new polling conducted for House Majority PAC shows just how much vulnerable Republican members are paying the price for having supported a shutdown of the government while leading the country to the brink of economic calamity.
National polling has clearly demonstrated the extent of record voter anger with House Republicans and how deep the Republican brand is in the toilet.
But House Majority PAC’s newly released polling in two targeted races shows the Democratic challenger leading the Republican incumbent, as well as the Republican’s abysmal favorability and job approval numbers.
FL-02
House Majority PAC’s poll shows Democrat Gwen Graham beating Republican Steve Southerland 44 percent to 41 percent. It also shows Southerland underwater on both his favorability (39 percent favorable, 41 percent unfavorable) and job approval (36 percent approval, 42 percent disapproval) ratings.
Of course, not only did Rep. Southerland vote to shut down the federal government, he was also one of a small number of vulnerable Republicans to oppose the bipartisan compromise to reopen the government and avoid default. House Majority PAC just this week began running a new TV ad hitting Southerland over his inexplicable ‘no’ vote.
MN-02
House Majority PAC’s poll shows Democrat Mike Obermueller leading Republican John Kline 42 percent to 38 percent. Obermueller’s dramatic improvement in this poll compared to House Majority PAC’s last in this race, which was conducted in the summer well before the GOP government shutdown impasse, underscores Rep. Kline’s substantial vulnerabilities.
This new poll also shows Kline dramatically underwater on both his favorability (32 percent favorable, 42 percent unfavorable) and job approval (31 percent approval, 40 percent disapproval) ratings.

“Numbers don’t lie. Voters are clearly holding vulnerable Republicans accountable for shutting down the government and driving the country almost to the point of default,” said Andy Stone, Communications Director for House Majority PAC.
