New House Majority PAC Running Radio Ads Against Vulnerable Freshmen
April 20, 2011
House Majority PAC, a newly formed group aimed at helping Democrats take back the majority in the House next year, is running radio ads in 10 Republican districts over the next week.
The ads target freshman Republicans for voting in favor of a budget the groups says will “gut Medicare for our seniors to pay for trillions in new budget-busting tax breaks for millionaires and big corporations.”
The targeted Republicans include Reps. Paul Gosar (Ariz.), Rick Crawford (Ark.), Allen West (Fla.), Chip Cravaack (Min..), Charles Bass (N.H.), Ann Marie Buerkle (N.Y.), Joe Heck (Nev.), Francisco “Quico” Canseco (Texas), Blake Farenthold (Texas) and Sean Duffy (Wis.). Each won a Democratic-held district last cycle. The group will also run a Spanish-language ad in Canseco’s district, which shares a long border with Mexico.
“Just days ago, Sean Duffy voted for the Republican budget plan that’s going to have the wealthiest Americans lining up at the trough,” the ad’s announcer says with pig snorting in the background.
“While Duffy’s budget leaves the wealthy fat and happy, it puts the squeeze on Wisconsin families, and will end Medicare as we know it, that’s right, end Medicare as we know it. Wisconsin families should all be squealing about what Sean Duffy is trying to do!”
The 60-second ads were produced by Shorr, Johnson, Magnus Strategic Media and will run from Thursday through next week.
“House Republicans have no problem asking seniors, middle class families and veterans to make sacrifices, yet refuse to do the same for big corporations and millionaires who would receive trillions in new tax breaks,” said Ali Lapp, House Majority PAC executive director. “We will hold House Republicans accountable for their backwards priorities.”
The campaign mimics a new DCCC push targeting some of the same vulnerable Republican freshmen. (The GOP mocked that effort as tiny given it cost less than $6,000.)
