NJ-03: House Majority PAC Congratulates Andy Kim
November 8, 2018
Washington, D.C. – House Majority PAC congratulates Representative-Elect Andy Kim on his victory in New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District.
“Andy Kim is fighting for everyone to have the opportunity to succeed – expanding access to health care, education, and building an economy that works for the middle class,” said House Majority PAC Executive Director Charlie Kelly. “House Majority PAC was thrilled to have played a major role in ensuring that Andy Kim goes to Washington and fights for New Jersey families.”
HMP knew that beating Tom MacArthur in this Republican-leaning district was going to be challenging. However, the national political environment and Tom MacArthur’s leadership role passing the toxic GOP agenda, made this seat a prime pick-up opportunity. House Majority PAC polling in the summer indicated that Tom MacArthur’s leadership role passing the disastrous health care bill and his vote for the GOP tax plan made him uniquely vulnerable, and HMP had a real opportunity to drive up his negatives with a sustained campaign.
HMP launched a comprehensive media campaign – becoming the first Democratic outside group on-air in the race in late-August with TV ads both in the Philadelphia and New York media markets. The ads highlighted MacArthur’s role as the chief architect of an amendment that would jeopardize health care for people with pre-existing conditions, and reminded voters that MacArthur was a key vote and the only New Jersey Representative, Republican or Democrat, to support the GOP tax plan, which limits state and local tax (SALT) deductions that are critical for New Jersey families. In October, HMP ran an ad recapping Tom MacArthur’s long record of putting special interests over hardworking New Jersey families.
Additionally, HMP partnered with health care activist Ady Barkan and Be A Hero PAC – to run a TV ad that highlighted the detrimental health care impacts of MacArthur’s vote for the tax bill – specifically leaving millions more uninsured and increasing costs.
In the fall, HMP partnered with Priorities USA Action on a digital program that highlighted MacArthur’s support for the GOP tax plan, which raises taxes on the middle class and increases health care costs.
As well, HMP’s campaign in NJ-03 included a multi-piece direct mail program.
