NY War Room: One Month Until Government Shutdown – Nick LaLota, George Santos, and Anthony D’Esposito Choosing Politics Over People
October 17, 2023
New York, NY – One month until the government shuts down, the House is frozen, speakerless, and hasn’t moved a single inch closer to averting a shutdown. Meanwhile, House Republicans Nick LaLota, George Santos, and Anthony D’Esposito continue to put politics over people by fueling the Republican chaos to find a speaker.
A reminder of what a government shutdown means for New Yorkers:
- 1.3 million active-duty service members will be forced to work without pay, including 19,300 New Yorkers.
- 7 million vulnerable mothers and children will have their crucial nutrition assistance jeopardized, including 418,084 New York women, children, and infants.
- Countless travelers will face delays, with over 13,000 air traffic controllers and 50,000 TSA officers forced to work without pay, including 3,444 air traffic controllers and 766 TSA officers in New York.
“In a bad repeat of last month, Long Island Republicans Nick LaLota, George Santos, and Anthony D’Esposito continue to put politics over people with no plan to avert a government shutdown while the clock is ticking,” HMP NY Press Secretary Alisha Heng said. “Once again, MAGA extremists LaLota, Santos, and D’Esposito have made clear that instead of working for New Yorkers, they’d rather play political games and put New York families, troops, and small businesses at risk.”
