Rep. Joe Heck Keeps Up Effort To Pull Immigration Wool Over Voters’ Eyes

Washington, D.C. – Vulnerable Rep. Joe Heck is set to appear this morning on a South by Southwest (SXSW) panel in Las Vegas that is “center[ed] on the need to strengthen our economy by fixing our broken immigration system.”

For those doing a double-take that Joe Heck, who’s carefully cultivated an anti-immigrant record, is joining an effort “to urge members of the House of Representatives to get the job done [on immigration reform],” you’re not alone.

After all, just two months ago, Joe Heck joined with anti-immigrant zealot Steve King to deport DREAM Act-eligible young people.

But that’s not all. Heck said he’s against the bipartisan, comprehensive immigration reform bill that passed the Senate. Heck said he supported Arizona’s “bold” SB 1070 immigration law and wants to see it expanded nationally. And Heck even proposed eliminating the Constitution’s 14th Amendment and “visit[ing] the area of birthright citizenship.

“Joe Heck may be working overtime to deny his anti-immigrant record, but Heck’s efforts to pull the wool over voters’ eyes are going to catch up with him,” said Andy Stone, Communications Director for House Majority PAC. “Ultimately it’s hard to decide which is worse: Heck cozying up to Steve King and backing a repeal of the 14th Amendment, or the fact that he’s trying to hide those facts from Nevadans.”

Joe Heck is one of House Majority PAC’s top targets. House Majority PAC recently aired a two-week Spanish-language TV spot hitting Heck on immigration reform.
