Ryan All Talk, No Action on Trump

March 1, 2016

Washington, D.C. – Today, Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan passed on another chance to take action when it comes to the bigotry-fueled candidacy of his party’s presidential front-runner – Donald Trump. In comments to reporters this morning on Trump’s refusal to refute the support of white supremacist David Duke, “Ryan insisted to reporters that he still planned to support the Republican nominee for president, no matter who that person might be.”

“If Speaker Ryan was truly serious about refuting the bigotry that has consistently defined Donald Trump’s campaign, he would have dropped his plan to unequivocally support the eventual nominee long ago – not reiterated that plan today,” said House Majority PAC spokesperson Jeb Fain. “From Trump’s incredibly offensive rhetoric about women, Hispanics, Muslims and countless other Americans to his recent refusal to refute the support of a white supremacist, Speaker Ryan has had ample time and opportunity to lead his party in a better direction. Unfortunately, Speaker Ryan just showed the American people he’s all talk and no action when it comes to standing up to the demagoguery in his own party.”
