Steve Southerland Puts Government On A Path To Shutdown

Washington, D.C. – In backing the Tea Party House Republican defund-or-shutdown gambit, Steve Southerland chose today to put our nation on a path to a government shutdown.

Rather than pursue a reasonable, bipartisan course, Steve Southerland has embraced Tea Party extremism with an approach that has been described by two conservative editorial pages as a “suicide squad” and “Kamikaze mission.” Even Steve Southerland’s fellow Republicans recognize how perilous this defund-Obamacare-or-shut-down-the-government ploy is, calling it “ill-conceived,” “quite dicey,” and “terror politics.”

“With his vote, Steve Southerland officially joined the Tea Party Republican ‘suicide squad’ and moved our nation one step closer to a disastrous government shutdown,” said Andy Stone, Communications Director for House Majority PAC. “Instead of pursuing a reasonable path, Steve Southerland chose to throw down with the Tea Party to the detriment of his constituents in north and northwest Florida.”
