Gottheimer’s efforts have been buttressed by those of House Majority PAC, a super political action committee created to elect Democrats to the House and is on the air and in the air against Garrett.

The super PAC, funded in part by several labor unions, is spending $307,000 on cable television ads criticizing Garrett for opposing a ban on displaying Confederate flags in military cemeteries and for his opposition to gay rights.

The House Majority PAC’s effort also funded flights over the Jersey Shore over the Labor Day weekend, as an airplane carried a banner reading, “GarrettBigotry.com Rep. Scott Garrett – Move to Alabama.” The PAC did the same thing over the July 4 holiday.

“More than a thousand miles and a hundred years separate Congressman Garrett’s views from the values of New Jersey voters,” House Majority PAC spokesman Jeb Fain said.

To date, the super PAC has spent more than $1 million to defeat Garrett, more than in any other congressional district.
